with breaking news. >> the old sheriff will be back in town. tonight the san francisco board of supervisors votes to reinstate suspended sheriff ross murkarimi. good evening, everyone. i'm jessica aguirre. >> and i'm janelle wang in forage mathai. the vote on murkarimi's future came down just in the last half hour. >> jean elle has the very latest. jean? >> reporter: this board meeting just ended, and for san francisco board of supervisor members voted not to uphold charges of official misconduct. and that means the mayor did not have enough votes to remove the sheriff from office, and he can now be reinstated. board members started deliberating at 9:30, many made emotional statements about family members being victims of domestic violence. but supervisors christina olagi, john avalos and jane kim said while what murkarimi did was wrong, the charter is too narrow to support removing him from office. >> while the emotion satisfaction and political expedience of removing an official for a crime that most of us find unacceptable is very tempting to me, that is precisely the danger of removing

francisco. their fishing boat capsized a mile off shore. monty francis is near highway 1 in san mateo county with the latest for us. >> reporter: good evening. we spoke to the family of one of the missing boaters and they are hoping and praying he will turn up alive. it has been 12 hours since the boat capsized and the search is underway still tonight. family members shouted the names of the missing clinging to hope their loved ones would return safe. among them the wife of one of the men from san francisco. he shared her anguish. >> i want my husband to come back. we are waiting for you. >> tang who has a 7-year-old daughter left this morning from san francisco with three friends for a fishing trip. hours later, one mile off shore from the pichblgen point light house a large wave hit their 23-foot boat and it capsized. two of the men had life vests and swam to shore not far from where their boat ended up on the rocks. the other two, including tang, did not have life jackets and are still lost at sea. tang's sister says the four friends are all experienced boaters. >> he knows how to swim. >

problems. get chase liquid. . >>> good evening. that breaking news in san francisco where more than a dozen people are forced from their homes. the reason is a hazardous materials indent near the cone of powell and vallejo streets in the city's north beach neighbor. san francisco police evacuated a building after emergency responders reportedly found dangerous chemicals at the scene of an paernlg suicide. dispatchers got the emergency call around 7:30 tonight. first responders reportedly smelled some sort of chemical as soon as they arrived on the scene. now the fire department is working to clear the chemicals. the red cross is assisting people who were evacuated. the area shut down to traffic. this is a developing situation. we will update as we get new details. >>> now to our continuing coverage of the giants' playoff run. the bay area is abuzz with excitement as the giants prepare to play game six of the national league championship series tomorrow. thanks in large part to pitcher barry zito who led the team to victory last night. as nbc bay area's kimberly tere found. >> reporter: the

that capsized on san francisco bay yesterday. we want to show you video of the moments right after the accident as crews rushed to the aid of 14 members of the team. luckily, amazingly, no one was injured. the wing, what is called the mast of the 72-foot catamaran was destroyed. they are working to build another one but it won't be ready until next year. the america's cup hits in 2013 and they say in the interim it will practice on a smaller, 45-foot boat. >>> it was a long, long night for the giants. a rain delay in st. louis actually lasted longer than the game itself. the bottom line, though, the giants lost. rain and lightning interrupted the game in the seventh inning after nearly 3 1/2 hour delay they resumed the game and the giants lost 3-1. the cardinals take a 2-1 series lead. game four is tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. we have two with reporters traveling with the giants. our coverage continues later in this newscast and on the morning show. >>> ahead, an investigative unit exposed unregulated oil fracking. the changes that are coming to california's energy industry. >> it would have been bett

, san francisco style. a bachelor party on the bay ends with a coast guard rescue. good evening everybody, i'm in for rajai mathai. >>> and not the rescue that the bachelor was hoping for. a would-be groom found himself and his guests reaching for life boats, when they struck somebody out on the bay, causing them to take in water. and that meant help from the coast guard. the boat was towed in, and the bachelor will certainly have a good story to tell. >> reporter: that is right, i'm smiling, because this was a good news story. now, this was a pretty serious situation, but the 22 people on board didn't know that. the passenger and the crew was out for a party, a bachelor's party, on a boat called the "neptune," you can see here the passengers have their life boats on, and that is good news. the san francisco fire chief said they got a distress call about 9:00 tonight, the boat taking on water 400 miles outside of pier 39. luckily, the san francisco coast guard got out there before the boat started to sink. the guest of honor, or should i say, the groom-to be was taking it all in

is an indication of what's coming our way, it could be a wild ride here this fall and winter. back in san francisco, not cold enough for snow, but definitely, the temperatures dropping in low level moisture, we will have some of that fog developing at the coastline. let's get you into the next 48 hours. we have a system we were tracking the next couple days, finally moving off to the south. and here comes another storm system, it looks impressive on the satellite loop. as this continues to get closer, we're going to find this breaking apart. no heavy rainfall with this one here as we head throughout friday and saturday. it's going to continue to beef up that fog, right up against the coastline, temperatures from the 50s to 60s from about bodega bay all the way down to pacifica. it kicked up the wind and we'll find a 35% chance of shower. nothing major expected to come our way. for tomorrow morning, you're getting up early, around 7:00 a.m., widespread low cloud cover, not even for the coastline, back in the interior valleys, down into the south bay, as we head throughout the afternoon, we do expect
